270 Weatherby

I have a chance to get a good deal on a 270 weatherby but am not sure what to think of the situation. I almost bought the 270 wsm as I like the ballistics but then this weatherby comes along and when I compare the ballisitcs it seems better. It all looked good till I saw the price of shells $60.00 cnd!! wow
The guy selling the rifle told me you must reload to make this rifle worth while and I will but not for a about a year. So do you guys think I should go with the 270 wsm or 270 weatherby?? I do plan on reloading in the near future.
Cheers!!

Hi Norco,

What's it cost CDN for a box of .270 WSM? And if you're going to reload in the near future is the difference enough to bother you? And finally, which rifle can you get the best deal on.....and do you like the most?

I've got a feeling the .270 WSM aren't real cheap either.....and if that is true...I wouldn't let the "buck on factory ammo" make the decision for me. I decide based on the rifle I liked the best....and which was the best deal!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

For me it would be the 270 WSM. But AK gave some good advise. In time the components for the WSM will most likely drop below that of the Weatherby in price. The 270 WMS is my favorite of the Short Mags.

Good advice all.
There is also another consideration....why is the guy selling the 270 Weatherby?
I once owned a Weatherby Mark V in 7MM Weatherby Magnum.
It was the poorest shooting rifle I ever owned.
I finally sold it in frustration. A close friend of mine had a 270 Weatherby Magnum at the same time. We bought them to hunt together. He had the same experience.
Let the buyer beware!
Best wishes, Clint

I would just buy a 7mmremmag and have a much greater selection of factory ammo available at lower prices. When you start reloading you will have a larger selection of bullets and brass will be cheaper.

Stubblejumper has hit the nail on the head. For practical hunting the 7mm Rem Mag is superior to the .270 in any form...WSM, Win, or Weatherby.

Give this some thought.....how many folks do you know that have a .270 Weatherby?.....I assure you that there's a reason for that.

Well I don't think I'll get the 270 Weatherby just because I really don't know how it shoots as well as I don't know one person who shoots them around here.
As for the 7mm rem mag thats definetly a possibilty. So many choices!!

I dont own a 7mm but agree it would probably be the better choice. The 270wsm bmay come down in price but maybe not with gun companies coming out with new calibers every year there may not be enough people buying them to justify lowering costs. Me ill stick with the old standbys 06 280 or a 270

270WSM is 25$ (with tax) for the ct bs'ts and 20$ for the pp's. Also consider the weatherby ballistics are a 26''barrel and wsm's are wit a 24'' barrel. For reloading the 270wsm brass is cheaper than weatherby. Good luck with whatever u choose.

I would go with the .270 Wby. Mag. Since you are going to start handloading ammunition will not be a monitary factor in the future for you. Good luck.
