120 gr 7mm-08 hollow point
 

Will 120 gr hollow points for a 7mm-08 consistently kill whitetails or is it a risky bullet to use for such purposes?

Absolutely nothing consistantly kills whitetails......

For your 7-08 I'd suggest you use 139 grain and larger bullets for best results.

I have had excellent luck with 140 grain Sierra GameKings.

The only hollow point I would use is a 140 gr. or 150 gr. Barnes XBT. Good luck.

I'm not a big hollow point fan on whitetails. I'd opt for something that'll stay together a little better personally. The bullet Frizz suggested is excellent.

I prefer 140 grain and would not use any hollow point for deer hunting

Thanks, I have been using 140 gr Winchester power points but I heard a guy say he used the hollow points and it kinda threw me because I didn't think they were designed for deer.

I don't know which hollow pt you are refering to. Some hollow point bullets are desighned for hunting. Such as the 120 grain Hollow point by Hornady for the 25-06. Read up on what the manual for your bullet has to say about it.

I used 7mm-08 Remington 120 gr. Hollow Points on deer for 9 years without losing a single deer. Most of them dropped dead in there tracks. Exit wounds most of the time were about the size of a golf ball, some bigger. I used Hornady 139 gr. sst's this year and now I'm thinking about going back to the 120's. Every deer I shot this year ran at least 50 yards with little blood trails. I've never had to track a deer the way I did this year. This is just my opinion.

Im assuming you are talking about the Remington 120 grn hp factory ammo. With the correct shot placement it will definetly do the trick. I however love the hornady 139 light magnum with the sst or soft point bullet. Very accurate and deadly. I am not a fan of remington ammunition in general (just my opinion, doesnt shoot well out of any of my guns), but a good 120 grn bullet from some big bullet manufatures like sierra, hornady or nosler will kill the biggest whitetail on the planet. Use whatever shoots well out of your gun. Shot placement is everything.
