RE: 120 gr 7mm-08 hollow point
My favorite bullet for the 7mm-08 is Hornady 139gr SST's. The only time I used a 120gr on a deer was with my 15" Encore and that buck only ran 30 to 40 yards before droping...

They work perfectly
Don’t let anyone else tell you differently I have been shooting hollow point bullets for deer since I was 12 I will never shoot anything but for any animal ever all these people who tell you pointed soft points is put others in danger I know I was sitting in my stand one day and heard the shot and heard the bullet hit the deer and I heard the bullet ricochet and hit the tree I was in most people are under the impression that you need a 220 psp bullet from a 30-06 rifle moving around 2500 FPS at the muzzle to kill a whitetail deer that weighs an average 150 pounds guess what wrong I have killed deer with a 22 hornet and a 35 grain bullet the deer went 20 yards and fell dead is all the hunters in the woods would start using a hollow point for deer they would have less get away so don’t listen to anyone tell you don’t use them you go ahead and use them anyway most good hollow point bullet never make the other side of your animal and most likely drop with in feet of shooting it and to all you other guys who want to shoot drill bits at deer just wait one day it might happen that your bullet exits a deer and hits someone I bet you’ll listen then

each of us has learned from experience,
higher velocity fast-expanding projectiles don,t tend to penetrate nearly as well as the heavier jacketed soft point or hard cast bullets
personally I prefer hard cast bullets at moderate velocities, mostly I use a 44 mag revolver,
but I certainly see nothing wrong in use of a rifle in any caliber you prefer,
the skill required assumes you both understand the games anatomy and your weapon of choices limitations,
I used a 375 H&H, 45/70, 30/06 , 358 win, and 340 wby to hunt elk for 4 decades,
I also use a 44 mag revolver and a bow on several dozen out of state hunts
provided you master the skills required a 44 mag revolver like a lee 310 grain in my 44 mag, that will leave exit wound in most cases,
that does not make it an inferior choice.
you should not be shooting if theres anything potentially in danger beyond your intended target
know your games anatomy and master your weapon of choice.

And here I was thinking one of the big 4 rules of shooting was "know your target and what is beyond it". Kind of negates Bobs needed use of hollow point bullets for hunting. Makes one wonder why he pulled up a 15 year old thread for a nonsense, and non punctuated, statement.

When I used a 7mm TCU for deer I used Hornady 120 gr SSP (single Shot Pistol) bullets. They performed well. The only hollow point bullets I use on big game are Hornady 300 gr HP .458" bullets in my .45-70 Guide Gun.

I clicked on ONE thread here today... read 15yr old silliness from an ex-member about “nothing consistently killing whitetails,” then a blabbering grammarless necropost, and was finally treated to a CGI of a cast 44cal bullet in a thread about 120grn 7-08 bullets...
