RE: How about a 45colt lever action rifle for deer hunting?
Just a comment about the effectiveness of the 45 LC and the case strength of that cartridge . Several years ago John Linebaugh built me a 45LC on a ruger super blackhawk it would shoot 260 grain hard cast bullets at 1700 fps & 310 grain hard cast bullets at 1500+ no problems with case strength . I would not try to duplicate these loads in the Marlin cowboy 45's .Just a testament to the 45 LC about the same preformance as a 44mag. with an extra 100 grains of bullet weight . I would never dream of bad mouthing the 44mag but with the right gun and carefull load development the 45 will do everything the 44 will do and maybe a little more .

I started using the Henry Repeating Bib Boy 44mag this year for deer. Light recoil, accurate handsize groups at 100m using factory loads, reaches out to 275m on the range with 15" drop. Very pleased with the performance of the 44mag rifle.

Years ago when the 454 casull was developed, it used a tri-plex load in a 45 colt case. Obviously, the case strength is not a problem like so many think.
