I have read an article or two on the subject but I have never known anyone who has actually botherd to do it. I know that there are scope ring lapping kits and you can probably find out information on line if you can locate the companies who make them.
I might consider it for a hihg dollar scope but that is just my personal thoughts.

I bought the rod to do it from Midwayusa along with the alignment tools to make sure the rings were aligned. I lapped them. I feel there is no strain on my scope now. I guess mentally I feel better. whether it helps my shooting, no way to tell. When people start to get the ocassionaly flyers, they start questioning everything. How's my runout of my brass, well better then a runout tool. Then they question there seating depth, then the powders. Then the scope, and on and on until you have the biggest bunch of crap for your hoppy you have ever seen. Enough to drive a wooden man crazy. But I have sure had fun over the last several years, thinking about this stuff.

Instead of going through the trouble just buy a pair of Burris Signature Series Posi-Align rings. They have an insert that will not allow your scope to be in a bind. I used to have a local part time Gunsmith lap all of my rings and I tried the Burris and these are the only rings I buy now.

my buddy did one of my rifles this year for me, first time i've ever done it. you can definitly see the inconsistencies in the ring after lapping but not sure it's eneough to affect your accuracy for the average deer hunter. you think that all those old timers had their rings lapped ...NOT.
