Rebarreling a Savage

A few months ago, the topic came out in a gun magazine and was discussed on this forum. I have done a search and have not been successful. I was wondering if anybody has done this by themselves. I know that all of the required tools and parts can be purchased at www.midwayusa.com , and have looked into it. I was thinking of getting a mauser rechambered to .257 Roberts, and then remembered about the Savage conversion option. I could probably buy a used Savage (there are a lot of them around here) and rechamber it for less than half of what the gunsmith would charge to rebuild that mauser. Anybody know where I can get the information to do such a project, any tips, do's and do not's, or should I just leave it to the experts on this one? I am really impressed with Savage's strength of the actions. I watched a program today, and Savage proof tests their rifles with 130% loads. It didn't even make the bolt stiff, opened right up. Thanks guys, any input would be great!

RE: Rebarreling a Savage

Yes, I rebarreled a Savage 110 to 308 Win from 22-250 Rem. It is easy. All you need are a barrel vise, a barrel nut wrenh and a set of go-no go gauges. The operation doesn't take long at all. Email me if you want to know more.
