Remington model 870
What do you guys think of this gun? I know practically everyone owns one, but, what's your 2 cents?

The Remington 870 12GA?
I have a lefty version with 28" barrel, 2 3/4 or 3" shells. I absolutely LOVE my 870. :D:)[8D] Go anywhere, do anything, hunt anything... it does it all and then some! The 870 is so reliable and legendary, that it's been said that "over the years, since 1950, almost EVERYONE has had an 870 at one point or another". No lie, I know an older guy who still has a 1956 Remington 870 12GA! This old gun is dinged, scratched, and shows plenty of character, but I will say this - it still shoots down the ducks/geese just like when it was brand new! Butch |

The 870 is a fine gun. It's no Model 12, but I would say it's the best pump on the market today.

I have a left too. Shoots great. Put a Hastings rifled bbl on it for deer. Didn't feel at all bad about leaning it up against a tree yesterday with the stock completely buried in snow. We have about a foot of snow on the ground here in NJ.
It's my kind of gun. I would never do that with my Ruger Red Label. |

For the money they are very hard to beat.

RE: Remington model 870
I don't think one can go wrong with the 870. There's a reason that it's been around, in basically the same form, for 50 years. I learned to shoot with my dad's 870 Wingmaster 20ga., which he purchased new in 1968, and it still works as well, if not better, today than it did when it came out of the box 35 years ago. The only part not factory stock on the shotgun is the original non-ribbed barrel was replaced with a vent-rib barrel.
I know that I'll inherit that shotgun when my dad's gone, and my son will inherit it from me. But...as much as I like the 870, I actually prefer my Browning BPS. It's by far, IMO, the best pump shotgun made today. Mike |
