New gun suprise

Did anyone buy or borrow a gun this year, that was new to you and were suprised, immpressed or upset with it's performance??

Yes. I bought a new 257 Roberts in the 700 Remington synthetic. I was impressed with its accuracy a little under four tenths of an inch with its first group with factory Federal Premium Ammo. I was even more impressed with the way it kills deer with the 100 grain Barnes X bullet. They drop where they stand. I loaded the X to 3130fps and of course they exit and you never find one to look at.

not this year money has been tight. but i have a rule of thumb.. never buy used... " you don't want to get someone elses problem " but that is just me..

back in 98' thought i bought a year old rem 1100 synthetic stock with 28" barrel. took a nice 8 pointer with her only had one problem but was from wear and tear for use of it.

I am really glad I don't subscribe to that opinion or I would have missed out on some great deals. Since I work on my own guns someone else's problem can usually be fixed with a little knowledge and time. I picked up a Ruger Mk II All Weather in 270 Win and after working the trigger, floating the barrel and bedding the action it will shoot .5" groups all day. Funny thing is I would have had to do the same thing to a brand new Ruger. If you want to pay extra for new then more power to you.

Got a heck of a deal on a Winchester Feather weight in 257 roberts a few months ago..plus a new 12" bull bbl. 17K hornet for my contender.
I've bought several used guns over the years, never had a problem.

I'm glad I don't subscribe to that theory either, Frizz!
If you check them out carefully, you can get a good second hand gun at some great prices!

I did not buy a new gun for myself, my wife bought a new Springfield Armory XD-40 Tactical chambered in 40-S&W.
I never have liked semi auto pistols until a friend of ours showed us this one & I shot it.
My wife can empty both 10-round clips very fast & you can cover the 20-round group with one hand @ 25-yards.:) She is the kind of woman you do not want to upset.;)
I feel almost the same about used rifles as Quilly. The only way I will buy a used rifle is if I talk to the owner first about why he is getting rid of the rifle? I will also buy a rifle that looks totally trashed if I can get it dirt cheap just so I can have the action to build from.

my dad got me a browning citori 525 sporting 12 ga. and maybe it just feels like it shoots so good because it looks so good!!! clay targets don't stand a chance. but over the years every browning i've bought or shot has impressed me...even the old '57 A-5 that'll slay all kinds of birds.

I bought a new Tikka Whitetail Hunter Magnum in .300 Win Mag and put a Leupold on top of it... I haven't gotten a chance to try it on animals yet, but it will put three bullets inside half an inch at 100 yards - until I get tired and start pulling them ;). The action is silky-smooth, and it's a well-balanced hunting rig. I love that gun.

Has anyone tried a Mossy 935 or Benelli R1 rifle?? Just curious.
