I'd choose the 300 Wby. since ballistics are very close to equal between the two and the 300 Wby. has stood the test of time. There have been so many new cartridges developed and released in the last half dozen years that they can't all make it and I believe that some of these new cartridges won't be around in a few years. The 300 Wby. is a time tested proven winner.

Stubblejumper, uh, mine didn't. I don't really know what you want me to say. I was just giving my advise?? I have had good BDL's and bad. Not all of them will shoot 1/2" or even 1.5MOA accuracy. Just look at American Rifleman on their tests they do. Its a rarity that they get average subMOA accuracy out of any of their test guns. Or any of the hunting mags. They all either have bad shooters, paid off by compitition, or their are alot of people that are real lucky on this page. I have a BDL in 270 that will and always have shot subMOA groups with little or no cool down. Its a kick ass BDL with no or little work. Does that mean all BDL's will? No, its a matter of factory tolerance. Just hope when they hammer forged a barrel, you get one with the least amounts of inpurities. Hope when they hammer forged the barrel, they heated it up to the proper temp so the micro stress cracks wasn't so bad. People are extremely emotional over car brands and guns, I see. I don't have any weatherby's, but I believe they are one well built gun. Maybe one of the best. Just hate the dad gone freebore and belt. And even with a bull barrel, that don't guarantee you much. I talked a freind into getting a Sendero since my PSS shot so well. He is disappointed with the 1.5" groups. So he is sending back to remington. All I knew to tell him, is mine shot well. And if I had plenty of cash, I would only buy the best. You wouldn't see me with any factory BDL, my friend. Only thing factory might be the action. Krieger, lilja, or hart would be the only barrel that I would shoot. Until then, I have to wish for a little luck in my truck and gun purchases and shoot sub $1000 rifles.

Bigcountry-I was just pointing out that even thinner barrels can be very accurate in the 300 ultra. They do build heat but a quality barrel in a well built gun can still give great three shot groups with no cool down between shots.I personally do not own any factory rifles as I prefer the quality that only custom rifles offer.

I would seriously concider the Sendaro. I have a .300 ultra mag in a stainless BDL, and after 20 rounds my shoulder is tender shooting from a bench. The added weight will lessen the recoil. With the BDL your looking at 45ft.lbs. of recoil energy, comparable to a .460 Weatherby with a muzzle brake. I shot mine using one hand to grip the rifle on a bench rest, the recoil was enough that the knurled bolt handle removed some skin off the side of my trigger finger. I've seen another post on a different board where someone claims a friend knocked ten teeth out shooting an ultra mag, where the *&#$ did he have his head! I installed a Vais muzzle brake on the BDL, muzzle blast isn't any worse, and it tamed it down to where I can shoot it without holding the front of the stock down while shooting off a rest.
Good Luck with your new rifle

Guys, I forgot about this. But on Saeed's accurate loading page, he has a few apple to apples comparisons on speed and group size. Pretty interesting stuff. They do alot of cool tests with pretty conclution results.
