Confine your shooting to 50 yards and the fox should not be a problem. Some bobcats can get quite large and I'd personally prefer something like a .22 centerfire for them.

You have to use your own judgment!!

Hi Suthern buck,

I think I'd go with Vapo's advice on this one. There is no doubt that a .22LR will kill a bobcat, (some cougar hunters even use to shoot them through the lungs when treed...they bled to death internally), but a .22LR doesn't get the job done with any authority. I personally believe we owe it to the game we hunt to use enough gun to humanely kill under adverse conditions. And the .22LR is not enough generally speaking for bobcats. If you can get your hands on a carbine chambered for one of the pistol cartridges, (like .357 Magnum, .32-20, .25-20, etc), or a centerfire .22 (Hornet or larger), or even a good accurate .30 caliber carbine. Something on the order of one of those would be ideal. If you insist on trying the .22LR....stick to head shots...at certain ranges!

Good luck!

P.S. At shorter ranges a shotgun, (larger than .410), with a reasonably large shot size (like BB's or 2's) should drop them quick!
