RE: Max 30 06 load
If you do not handload and are looking for a good elk load for your .30-06 try some of Federal's Premium High Energy loads in your .30-06. Preferably with Nosler's 180 grain Partition....if it shoots well in your rifle...use it! Otherwise choice a Premium load using a premium bullet of controlled expansion type of 180 grains. (Brand name bullets to look for would be Nosler Partition, Barnes "X", Swift A-Frame, Trophy Bonded, Speer Grand Slam, etc.) Any of these should work well.
If you do handload, start working on some loads using Nosler's 200 grain Partition. Work up to a recommended maximum load with that bullet that shoots well.....and you will be as well armed as you can be for Elk. Good luck! |
RE: Max 30 06 load
AKBOUND pretty much nailed it.....
While the .30-06 is a common cartridge, it's also an immensely powerful cartridge.....it'll handle bullets at least to 220 grains adequately, and will do so in very light rifles. 180-200 grain bullets will handle anything in north America....and will do so with gusto...it's a helluva cartridge!!!!! |
