I have to take issue with the sugestion that a 30-30 is only good 2 150 yards. Your average 150 grain round maintains over 800 lbs of energy at 200 yards. The only thing you have to do is compensate for the distance and hit your mark. if you set your zero for 100 yards, the drop isn't that much

dpv, I stand behind my vote for the 35Rem over a 30-30. At the close range that these rounds are designed to be used the larger, heavier bullet kills with more authority than a 30-30. Ballistic numbers alone don't tell the whole story of any cartridge, whether it's a 30-30, 35Rem or 30-06 for that matter. If someone needs to shoot past 150yds or so, then why are they carrying a 30-30 in the first place? If you're hunting an area that is mostly thick stuff but has a few spots for a 150-200yd shot then something like a 308 carbine is without doubt a better choice. If someone likes the 30-30 that's OK with me but I feel their are better choice's available for any type hunting that can be named.:)

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to buy a 30-30? Its true the 30-30 has killed a lot of deer, but there are so many better calibers out there.
The balistics on the 30-30 aren't too good either. I'd much prefer the .35 Remington in a Marlin lever, if thats the kind of action you want.

i love the 30-30 and use it to this day a winchester 94 but i have a savage 99 in .308 too, that is great in the grass pockets i hunt. i think a 30-30 is a good frist gun(was mine) and i will assume you are small so you are looking for not much kick and a small rifle
