260 or 25-06
 

I was looking for a new deer rifle and was wondering which one would be better. I hunt in brushy areas but also want something to shoot out to 300yds or so. Any experiences or preferences about either? Thanks

In my opinion the .260 is the better deer cartridge, but the .25-06 will do the job as well.

Both great guns. The 25-06 will shoot a little flatter, the 260 offers more bullet weight. Either would be a good choice. I would pick the 260.

I have owned a .25-06 in the past and it is a good cartridge. I currently own a .260 and it is also a good cartridge. Personally I believe the felt recoil of the .260 is a little less. It offers very good medium game performance at a price of little recoil. I am very happy with the .260 and highly recommend it to others.

P.S. The .260 can be had in some very nice short action rifles which is not true of the .25-06.

I have both calibers but if I had to pick one it would be the 25-06,shoots much flatter...;)

Actually when shooting 120 grain bullets from both the 260 Rem is flatter by 3 inches at 500 yards. I would go with the 260 Rem or a 270 Win, but I just don' t see much point to a 25-06 personally. I know some people swear by it and it is a good cartridge for deer, but the 260 Rem and 270 Win are much better in my opinion.

The .260 Rem does everything the .25-06 can do, and more, because of the greater bullet weight. I would go with the .260 all the way...

I prefer the 25-06 due to it' s flatter trajectory.

I almost have both. I have the 260 and the 257 Roberts. The Roberts is not as fast or flatt shooting as the 25-06 buit for all practical porposes it is very simular. Someday soon I will pick up another 25-06. I had one before and still have the dies and a ton of brass and bullets. If nothing else I will add that barrel to my NEF collection.
