which cal.?

Hello, my name is Ed. I am new to this forum as most of you are aware. I have a question about two different calibers. My question is which caliber is more accurate at a further range, the 25-06 or the .300 mag? This cartrige will be used for deer hunting.

What caliber it is doesn' t tell you how accurate that it will be . True some bullets are better than others as far as accuracy but that has to do with the way its designed rather than what caliber it is . All of this means nothing if you don' t have a well setup, accurate gun to begin with .

If it will be used only for deer, save your shoulder and get the .25-' 06. It will kill a deer as far as anyone should shoot at one.

Ed,

We need mor einformation before we can give you an educated opinion. What are you using the gun for, what type of game? WIll it be your one and only rifle or not? Realistically, how far will you be shooting? How big is the game you are hunting? Are you hunting moose or whitetail deer?

My 25-06 is a tack-driver...;)

well i will be hunting deer with this rifle. I would also like this gun for the range. I have several rifles but want a long range rifle. Perhaps a rifle that is capable at a 300 yard shot accuratly. I most likely will not shoot a deer at this range but it would be nice to know that I could.

My answer would be a 270 Win. It is flatter than the 25-06 with more punch and it is more versatile. It also has less recoil than the 300 Win Mag.

ALL HIGH POWER RIFLES IN THE RIGHT HANDS CAN SHOOT 300 YDS ACCURTELY. THE CALIBER GIVES YOU THE AMOUT OF IMPACT AT THE GIVEN YARDAGE

For 300 yards or less, take the 25-06 and don' t look back. For truly long range shooting (not hunting) of 1000 yards the 300 usually gets the nod due to a better BC and more stable bullets than the 25' s. But for deer hunting under 300 yards they will both do fine.

anywhere from the 7mm-08rem, 308win 270win and 280rem is alos fine deer rounds.
depending on how your shots will be you really don' t need a magnum for deer.
