RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
About 2.5 years ago I bought 4 of them to put on Savage 10ML-II muzzleloaders. One was bad right out of the box, the other 3 sook to peices with 100 shots. Don't waste your money on any Simmons product.
For the same amount of money, get a Nikon buckmaster. You'll be glad you did. |
RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
my brother put a 10 year old simmons on his muzzelloader that used to be on his .22, its holds its zero year to year and even will 150gr change shooting a 300gr bullet. thats about as heavy recoilong you can get in a muzzeloader. i have no idea what the model is but it seems to hold together just fine.

RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
My brother has one on a Marlin 336 in 35 remington, nice black bear gun. He absolutly loves his and it draws great light. I used a Simmons 44mag on a REALLY hard kicking & rem mag, it shook to peices after 3 years, probably 150 rounds, i sent it back to Simmons and they sent me a brand new scope as replacement. I now have had it on my 30-30 for about 4 years and have had no problems. I dont have a prblem with them at all,for the price it is very hard to beat. You may also want to look at the new Tasco 3x9x44/50, a buddy of mine purchased one for his '06 and has been really pleased. Tasco's higher line stuff has alot better quality.

also wanted to post a link http://www.swfa.com/
these people are great and the prices are pretty good |
RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
Yep I bought a 3.8-12x44 A/O Aetec from SWFA last week. I think it cost about $170. Its looking good so far.

RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
I've had a couple models of the Simmons. Most of the low ends have been what you pay for them but nothing but good for less on the Aetec and Mag series.
|
RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
I've had an Aetec on a 300 Ultra Mag for three deer seasons and it still holds its zero. The scope is bright and clear.
Just for kicks I mounted a Simmons 2x32 ProDiamond on my FN FAL today. Its chambered in 308 NATO. Took five shots to get zeroed, then proceeded to run another 195 rounds through her as long as she was out. Still zeroed. |
RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
I have a few Simmons scopes and never have had a problem with any of them .
|
RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
I bought an aetec a few years ago,on a new rifle, wasted a lot of ammo thinking it was the rifle, reliazed it was the scope, took it back, got another new one out of the box,did the same thing, took it back got another one ,same thing.throwed it in a drawer, been there since so if you want one at a very good price let me know.

RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
For that price range I'd buy a Leupold Vari-xII or the Nikon Buckmasters. I think both would be much better than the Simmons.

RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
Bought an Aetec last year....haven't regretted it yet.Friend of mine just bought a Nikon...fell apart first day!
|
RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
Buy yourself a good scope.Leupold VarXII are running around 200.00 or less. I have a couple of friends who have Simmons. Both of them have had problems with them. One of them the cross hairs were messed up.I'm not sure which model they are but know for sure they are Simmons.I realized that all brands sooner or later may let a Lemon or two slip through.Sounds like Simmons and Tasco are part owners of Sunkist.Save your money and buy a quality scope. You'll be better off in the long haul.Ruger Redhawk

RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
I have a Simmons Aetec 3.8 x 12 on my 35 Whelen for the past 3 years now works Great. I can see a 35 cal. hole at 100 yards.I have mine zeroed at 200 yards never had a problem with it in the field. I got mine from Wal-Mart.

RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
For the price range you're talking, you could buy a low end Burris or Leupold, both of which are 100% US optics and Made In The USA. The low end Burris & Leupold scopes are lightyears better than any high-end ChiCom made scope.

RE: Simmions Aetec any good?
Greets,
Here we go... IF you can manage to spring for a leupold or other higher quality scope, even one of there low end ones DO IT! If not, I have seen a tasco world class last years without troubles ( I could be wrong but I think they currently run around $100 or just a bit over that, my freind bought his several years back for around 150ish I think ). I currently shoot with a Simmons, and while I like it SO FAR I cant in good conscience recommend it after reading so many horror stories about them here. I have less than 100 rounds fired thru that rifle with the simmons on it. ( Actually its probably closer to 50, we sighted it in and played a bit but nothing more ) |
