I have been getting 3200fps to 3250fps with 140gr ballistic tips in a 24" barrel. This is using r-22 with remington brass and 215 primers.I have seen 3300fps out of a 26" barrel with the same components.

That is substantially more than I am getting with REl 19 or IMR4831 in a 24" barrell and using the same cases and primers

I' ve been getting 3350 f.p.s. using 140 grain ballistic tips with federal premium nickel brass 4320 IMR and CCI large rifle magnum primers with less than max loads in a 26" winchester.

My Ruger M77 Mark II is getting 2950fps using Remmington 160gr Swift A-Frame bullets. At least that' s what the box claims.

My Remington 700 24" barrel with Rl25 and Hornady 162 grain BTSP will get about 3,000' /sec. It' s really hard on deer too.

RE: 7 Rem mag velocity question?

An interesting question. I was reading something recently about the 7mm/08 and it said that considering the extra powder and recoil of a 7mm rem mag. the 7mm/08 was not that far behind in peformance (when compaired in HUNTING RIFLE LENGTH BARRELS)

The 7mm Rem. mag. looks great on paper for handloads and factory stuff where 26 in. barrels are used. But most hunting rifles don' t have 26 in. tubes.

A long time ago I had to choose between a 7mm Rem. mag. and a .264 Win. Mag. I chose the .264 (and later bought a 7mm mauser) and so have never had any first hand experience with the big 7.
