Ruger M77 RSI .308 Win.

Looking at a sweet deal on a Ruger M77 RSI in .308 Win........, rifle is 5-6 years old, never fired, never had a scope mounted. Really like the looks of the full length Mannlicher style stock (and the wood is awesome looking). Was wondering about the recoil/muzzle blast of the .308 in this short, lightweight rifle (18.5" barrel, 7 pounds with no scope)? Anyone got one of these or have any first-hand experience with the RSI? Sure seems to handle nice! Come on, talk me in or out of it!!! I' d take it in the north Georgia woods on occasion;).

I' ve always liked the looks of the RSI, but never bought one. I fear the full length stock would cause accuracy problems if it ever got too moist and warped. It gets damp here in Oklahoma. Humidity alone is usually above 65% even on sunny dry days.

Being it' s a 7 lb rifle, it shouldn' t kick much with the .308. Add another 1.5 lbs for scope, base, and rings and it weights the same as any other sporting rifle. Muzzle blast shouldn' t be much of a consideration either.

If you like it that much, and will use it only occasionally, I see no reason why you shouldn' t buy it.

Had exact rifle a couple of years back...good shooting rifle and recoil is not an issue with it...never had a problem with the wood warping. Go to WWW.chuckhawks.com and read about it..he owns one of them also

I used to have one (and am now kicking myself for letting it go) and I loved it. I am recoil-sensitive, and I had no problem shooting it. There were never any problems with accuracy, either.

If you are looking for a fast-handling woods rifle for deer or elk, it is darn near perfect. Looks great, too, and you won' t see very many folks running around the woods with a rifle just like yours...

I have a Bolt action Savage that weighs 8 pounds with a scope. The recoil isn' t anything that I even consider. I don' t even notice it when shooting.
