I have been using a 300 WBY Mag for a long time and really getting over it...
Its overkill, expensive to shoot, and beats the heck out of my bad shoulder.

I am looking to get something that will be easier to carry, handle and shoot. I am thinking a 308 would be a great all around caliber.
All I do is deer hunt and shots are pretty much never over 150 yards.

I'm looking for something that will be lightweight, low recoil, and take the elements really well.
A buddy told me to look at a savage 110 trailhunter. Thoughts on this or any other rifle I should look closely at would be much appreciated

Have you considered the 6.5 creed?

I'm not opposed to it... I dont know much about that one. I recently bought a Ruger Ranch in 6.5 grendel from a buddy, it was a really good deal but didn't consider that to be a solid option for deer. I need to look more closely into a creed... I admit, at a few glances, they sure do get a lot of hate for deer, but I hear of a lot of folks using them...

Under 150 yards- you'd have no problems with the Grendel honestly.

Lots of guys killing lots of deer with them.

I've killed quite a few deer with the grendel out to 200-250 yards, if I'm hunting in the woods, or still hunting, I carry the grendel or a 6mm ARC

6.5creed or even better, 7mm/08. Anywhere under 500 yards the 7mm08 is better performing than the 6.5 or the .308. It's only a couple of pounds harder recoil than the 6.5creed but several pounds lighter than the .308 depending on load and weight of rifle.

Awe, just get one of each, and a 6.5 PRC. Problem solved and you have cool toys!

My wife always shot a 30-06 while deer hunting, Two years ago she came down with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. I was little bit afraid the recoil from her M77 would be to much with all the tissue she lost. We bought her a savage axis in 6.5 creedmoor. Its was an inexpensive rifle, but shoots lights out with factory or reloads. She's taken 3 deer so far with it, the longest shot was 204 ranged. The longest one made it was 40 yards, other two practically went nowhere. All bullets were well placed right behind the shoulder mid-
chest. I load 140gr bergers for it, recoil is extremely light. I have several rifles she could have used that have low recoil, my .257 Roberts tops that list, but I always enjoy looking for a reason to buy a new caliber.

I hunt alot with small calibers,, 6mm PPC,6mm ARC, 6mm Rem, 25 wssm, 6.5 Grendel. 6.5 creeed, and the 7mm/08. not a bit of difference in on game terminal performance between them.
