With a smoothbore barrel you are limited to non-sabot slugs, you can use sabot slugs, but it is just a waste of money. Start with any good foster style slug from win, rem, fed, brenneke, lightfield, and see what one shoots best in your gun.

dog 72 pretty much summed it up. If you smoothbore barrel has screw in choke tubes, I' d suggest that you use the Imp-Cyl choke.

Another option in a smooth bore shotgun is to get a rifled choke tube if you have the ability to use screw in chokes. You can then see if the sabot slugs will shoot for you as well as the foster type slugs.

You will have to use full-bore size slugs of the Foster type, or of the Brenneke design. Brennekes are NOT Foster slugs!

If you are looking for accuracy it is worth your money to but the slug barrel. With a scope they are fairly accurate with sabots.

For a smoothbore with open sights the Brenneke slugs rock. Stay with the 2 3/4" to keep recoil down and accuracy up. Hit them in the vitals and they won' t go anywhere fast.

For use in a smooth bore either the Forster slug or a Brenneke will most likely be your best bet. Depending on what you intend to use it for might make a difference with which you' d prefer. The Brenneke is usually heavier than its counterpart Foster style, it is usually " harder" (meaning it is more likely to penetrate better and expand less), and some smooth bores prefer the Brenneke style. On the other hand Foster' s tend to be a little less expensive, are " softer" (tend to expand more and penetrate less), and with the major ammo manufacturer' s making their Foster' s all to a slightly different diameter you might find that your gun prefers one brand over the others....and shoots it extremely well.

What you intend to use the Slugs for may help determine which you might prefer. Assuming you find one that shoots well for you, (and I' m assuming you probably have the barrel with rifle type sights), any of them will kill deer very efficiently with a well placed shot. If you intend to use it for heavier game then seriously look at the Brenneke' s. They tend to out penetrate the Fosters by a significant margin. In Alaska we often used a New Haven 600, 12 gauge, with Brennekes in it for a camp gun in case of bears. (The New Haven 600 was made by Mossberg and was essentially just a Model 500. Like Marlin use to do with Glenfields.) I had every confidence in the Brenneke' s ability to penetrate enough to do the job. I would not have preferred to use Fosters for that!

You might very well have to try several brands and styles to find the one that gives you acceptable accuracy for your needs. Good luck with the search!

Thanks guys alot of great and helpful tips, here' s what I have come up with, I have a 12 power swift scope with high rise mount rings si z ican still use my iron sights, I got my new smooth bore slug barrel on and I bought alot of ammo most of what all you guys told me ot get, I shot all of them and the best ones I found for me and my gun are the Brennekie (spelling) I was hitting a pretty tight group at 110 yards I was amazed I have never shot a shotgun before that far in my life alot of people there were impressed so thats what I am going with couldnt be happier.
