weavers or leupolds if you have any experience with them

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
All of my scopes are leupold as are the mounts and I have never had a problem with either.

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
I prefer leupold as they are all steel and the torx screw heads resist stripping much better.

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
I prefer the Leupold dual dovetail mounting system. It is extremely strong, and as a bonus very attractive.
I have used the Weaver system and have also found it to be very good. The only problem I have is it is butt ugly! |
RE: which mounts do you prefer???
I agree, Leupold with the dual dovetail (that is the one without the windage screws).

Leupolds

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
I have always heard that Talley mounts are the absolute best, but to be honest I have never had mounts that didn't do their job.

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
Leupolds here as well.

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
Although i don't even own any, I'd like to invest in some quick-detachable Leupold mounts. All my scopes currently wear detachable Weavers or Weaver types. Some day I'll upgrade a few of 'em.

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
I have a set of Leupold Quick Release Rings and Bases on my 340 Wby. Mag. which has had 348 rounds through it, and one ring come loose once. I retightened the rings, and they haven't come loose yet.
Weavers suck!! I had a pair on a 30-06 Sprg., and they streched out after 100rds. Good luck. Edited by - handloader1 on 01/04/2002 23:40:32 |
RE: which mounts do you prefer???
Leupolds on all but my long range rifles, which wear Badger Arms bases and rings.
cogito, ergo armatus sum. |

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
Leupold dual dovetails are my favorites. I really dislike weaver mounts. They're hard to level the reticle with, not as strong as the dual dovetails, and they're ugly.

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
I love my Burris rings

RE: which mounts do you prefer???
I would not waste money on either the standard Leupold or the standard Weaver mounts. THEY BOTH SUCK!!!!!!!!!
The only Weaver style base, if you want to use that style base, is the Weaver Grand Slam base. It is milled from a solid bar of steel and much, much better than the standard aluminum Weaver base. Comes with Torx screws also. Add a good set of steel rings, like Millett, Warne, or Burris on these bases and you've got a good rugged setup, more so than the standard Leupold setup. The standard Leuplod mounts, with the front dovetail and 2 screw rear lock up are crap, just that plain and simple. I wouldn't recommend these to any one considering doing any kind of serious hunting or shooting. I've seen many, a rear mount problem on these style mounts/rings. Yes it does allow for windage adjustments, but just overtighten the screw or have a sharp blow to the scope, and the lip on the ring will shear off. Then you are up the creek without a floatation device. I use Warne and Talley mounts and rings mostly on my big game hunting rifles. These mounts and rings look good and are very, very rugged. But on my tactical, long range, and varmints rifle nothing but Badger Ordnance or M.W.G. tactical bases and rings. |
