Default Help 26-06 Savage Axis bolt magazine issues

My grandson won a Savage Axis 25,-06 Remington that from the get go I cant get the magazine to release. Plastic tab on the magazine is a very poor choice. Especially for a 9 yr old boy to operate.
The metal tab on the back of the magazine doesnt catch right within the firearm itself. And once mounted it doesnt seat itself right so pickup of the next round doesnt happen and the gun jams. So I wrote to Savage.

Just to clarify, is the problem youre having magazine related, or is it magazine release related? Ie, which part do you think is the offending item?

Magazine release is the issue.
I took another look very closely at magazine construction and fit.
The magazine itself is poor quality.
I need to load that magazine and wished I had dummy ammo.
I need range time or a suitable safe place to work the action in case of a misfire.
Not liking this firearm!

Magpul makes some magazines for that rifle, but i do not know if they make them in your caliber.

Worth looking into, probably.

Doing a bit more research I see there is a new revised magazine that removes that junky plastic looped release mechanism and goes back to a button type lock/release.
I'm hoping Savage is sending that to me. The current plastic tab on the magazine is the problem. If you dont pay attention and insert the magazine poorly it will jam. You'll have extreme problem removing the magazine. And since it is jammed the bullet pickup will also not work. You must insert the heal of the magazine in first and then push the plastic tab portion up.
The new redesigned magazine fixed that issue or do I saw on Youtube.
I'll keep you posted to what I get.

If magpul does make them in your caliber, i'd still look into the magpuls. They're pretty much the industry gold standard all across the board.

I know they make them for your specific model, but I do not know if they make them in .25-06

Glad Savage has addressed the problem though.

I will look into that.
However, I used the system form. Filed my complaint and Savage addressed my issue. I have a new magazine being shipped to me. Hopefully it's that new button style as it was a change from the plastics pressure tab!
Valorious - thank you sir!

If you have to go after market 25-06 will just use your standard magazine for .30-06, .270. same mag.
