The 7mmwsm is a a 404 jeffrey shortened and necked down.In other words it is a short but thick case.The 7mm stw is the 8mm rem mag necked down.The 7mmstw offers from 200 to 300 fps more velocity than the 7mm wsm but requires a long action rifle.

LONG ACTION VERSUS A SHORT. THE SHORT ACTION THEORY MAKES FOR A SHORTER PULL AND LIGHTER WEIGHT. BUT YOU WILL LOOSE SOME VELOCITY AND ENERGY ON THE WAY. MY OPPINION GIVE ME THE LONG ANYDAY I'M NOT WILLING TO MAKE THE TRADE OFF. The 7mm WSM is a little, short, fat magnum, and the 7STW is a great, big, long one. There's about 300 feet per second difference in velocties between them with the same bullets, in favor of the STW!!
