Browning BLR

Was looking at the lightweight BLR today in .308 and 7mm-08...., what' s the word (good or bad) on them? How about the aluminum alloy receiver - anything to worry about there related to scope mounting? Appreciate any comments. Incidentally, the 7mm-08 I looked at was stamped on the barrel as " 7mm-08 Win." , what' s up with that???? I' m assuming its a 7mm-08 Rem? Which would you choose for deer hunting in the woods, .308 or 7mm-08?

I was looking at them one day at Scheels all sports. I was looking at the light weight Browning auto loaders. The salesman actually told me that the light weight rifles won' t stand up as long or last as long as the regular ones. Don' t know if he just wanted to sell me something different or what. My brother has one and it has worked great but he only shoots it 10 times a year at most. There will me some here with more Browning expierence that I have. I did have a BLR in 7mm08. Not the light weight though. Mine shot well. Great caliber. It would not however handle reloads very well. I had to shoot factory ammo in it. For woods hunting I think it would be a total toss-up between the two you mentioned. I now have a 308.

I know....I know....some one always has to " cheat" and answer the question with an answer other than those provided! But I wouldn' t mind having a BLR.....but I would want it in .358 Winchester! (I don' t care if it' s not popular....and nobody else wants one! I want one!)

I like the looks of the BLR, and it looks like it would be quick handling. But please....make mine a .358 Winchester!

Either the 7mm08 or the .308 would be great for whitetails.....in the woods or the fields!

Good luck with your decision!

The BLR is a great rifle. One of only a few lever guns left that you can shoot spitzer bullets out of. I think I' d get the 7mm-08. Lighter recoil, but yet still plenty of energy for any whitetail.

I wouldn' t worry about the aluminum receiver either. It' s non-moving and aluminum is strong (think about the abuse aluminum riser bows go thru). I have a .45 acp Kimber with an aluminum frame. Have shot hundreds of rounds thru it with no problems at all. And that' s with a steel slide hammering it on every shot.
