it handles like magic!--model 94
I landed one of these at a gun show last week in great shape (it's post 64).
It shoots decent groups, though I ran out of daylight before I could get it completely zeroed. I see now why people like their winchesters.

They just carry really nice.
I don't currently have a 94 as I prefer the Marlin and started spending money on Savage 99s a few years ago.
But I've been keeping an eye out for a local 94 to come up for a good price .
Of all the levers out there I think they carry the best for an open sighted walking rifle.

OT,
That why I initially began buying Marlins .I wanted a scope on everything. And the Marlin was the best option for that.
Eventually I began having fun using open sights and now only my .45-70 has a scope on it. The .30-30s and .44 are all irons only now . Hopefully I have a few years of iron shooting left in my eyes

A Win 94 seems to be a must have if not only for nostalgic reasons. It almost seems un-American not to own one. Same as not owing a 30-06!! Silly of course. I never owned one up until about 7 or 8 years ago. Now I have 2. One in 30-30 and another in 32 Win Spl. But I also have a batch of Marlins. (1894s and 1895s) Some with scopes and some without. I love my .45-70s and would someday like to get my hands on a Win 1886. I did have a 71 that I bought for $750 and when I was offered $1550 for it I let it go.

That's why I'm getting my open sight hunting done now!
I still have a scope on my primary deer rifles and shotguns.
Usually just go open sight when I'm walking looking for doe
Another fun thing about a 94 is sometimes you'll find your empties in your collar it hat brim when you're done shooting!

Come on Oldtimr, that's why God made optometrists. I guess I'm fortunate that although my near vision has faded my distance (beyond 3') still pretty sharp. However I do find that I shoot open sights a little better when I wear my glasses.

I do not care for offset scope mounts and I am past using open sights.
What I'm thinking is a Williams peep sight, maybe spring for a marbles tang sight.
