Based on other posts that he had made I believe he found it initially for under $500....so he made out ok. I believe he found one in better shape, and thus didn't need this one anymore.

That's a nice rifle Jake. But the first thing I'd do with it is get rid of those silly see through mounts. Ya got to hold your head too high on the stock IMO. But that is sweet otherwise.

I haven't decided what to do with the mounts yet. On the one hand they've been on there longer than I've been alive I think lol.....

But I also don't really care for them. They were pretty popular for awhile though I'm guessing as allot of the older rifles that I come across have those on them. I guess guys weren't real confident in the scopes back then.

It wasn't so much lack of confidence in the scope. It was faster target acquisition with the open sites at close range in the woods shots. And unless you have a really long jaw line and neck, Mr. Bronko is correct. You have to crane a good bit to get good scope/eye alignment. Not a problem really at the bench but out in the woods when you may have to snap up to a deer you will see the problem immediately.

Bocajnala do you handl load for that 375 win savage rifle?
if so, are you having any issues finding brass cases?

Congrats! I think you made a really good deal! You really have to be up to date on the Savage 99's. There are so many variants out there! Some worth far more than others. I've seen some beat up ones, that I wouldn't trade my REM 597, 22lr. for that were well over 500 bucks! I finally found one that I paid 800 for. It is a .300 Savage in very good shape, with an original Weaver K4, made in the El Paso Texas days! The scope tracks as good as new but, my old eyes are screaming for more magnification!
Again congrats!
