22LR if not for hunting, for around the house. For me 60 or 10/22, but tons of good rifles out there.
Mosberg 500 12 Ga, cause I like the safety. Could do rifle barrel depending on where you live.
2 deer rifles. For me one would be 30-06. I would have a 2nd as back up. Might be lever or pump, or light weight.
This year was 760 30-06 and 45-70 1895. I'd like to add Remington mountain gun i 30-06, for walking. Maybe something else high end like sako.

So for the 5th, at the moment would be black powder inline for the extra season. You could use this as back up deer rifle, if wanted to add 44 mag for handgun hunting.

I could see 300 win mag as 2nd deer rifle, to have a gun for out west, 30-06 could still be back up for those trips.

Great to see from a different perspective - we WERE talking hunting so the front stuffer was a great idea.

Mark X Mauser in 30-06 with a 3-9 Leupold for deer and larger critters.
Win. 94 in 30-30 with a Lyman peep sight for a handy deer rifle.
Marlin 39M for squirrels, etc.
Browning BPS in 12 gauge for birds, squirrels, etc.
CVA Optima stainless in 50 cal. for deer in BP season.
the 5+1 would be a Ruger Security Six in 357 to carry when scouting, etc, the 5+2 is a kit gun 22 stainless revolver in 4 inch, easy to carry for plinking, etc.. If I had to acquire firearms again I would go with a Ruger 10-22 stainless and a stainless 30-06. Blue is pretty, stainless lasts longer.

That kit gun in 22LR sure brings back memories.

Alas, mine is not a S&W, it is a Rossi copy. Nevertheless it functions well and serves the purpose.

A car gun for use when traveling is a S&W 5906 with 3 Mec-gar 17 round magazines.

A pocket gun is a P64 in 9MM Mak.

I kept this hunting guns, not my carry guns. Have to add another 5 guns to that list.

1. Being a Farm boy, I believe in a cheap $300, very accurate, 22-250 like a Savage Axis II or Ruger American in the back window of the truck for Coyotes, badgers, jackrabbits, etc.
2. I like Deer and Elk jerky so I need a big game rifle. I love my $300, .66 MOA, Savage Axis II, chambered in .270, with the accutrigger and Weaver scope. This has been my elk gun for years. Cheap Federal blue box, Powershok, 130 grain soft point drops them.
3. I have loved my Maverick 88 by Mossberg 12 Ga. Shotgun for Duck, quail, and dove ($188 bucks).

In the Lower 48, these three guns satisfy all common hunting needs. $800 bucks total for your "arsenal" of 3 guns.

Boondock, just guessing, but is your #2 rifle a .270? I, too, love the Powershoks; I use them on deer out of my .308. Not surprised they are also good elk medicine.
