Securing sub-2000 gun in truck
Hey guys,
I recently picked up a Keltec Sub-2000 to keep in my truck. I want to find a way to secure it in a way that I can get to it quickly from the drivers seat but still be out of sight and possibly locked. It's going to be my SHTF gun when I get my 33rd mags from Classic Firearms. (if ever... The worst customer service I've ever dealt with) I have a single cab dodge ram. Dimensions when collapsed is 16.25" x 7" plus spare mags. Let me hear your ideas or recommendations. Thanks in advance. |
IMO keeping a firearm in the vehicle - locked or not - is not very responsible. If you want to keep it with you in your vehicle fine but take it out when you're not in it. Why not get a brief case and then you can carry it where ever. Or wear a single point sling under a jacket or vest and clip it on when you exit your truck (provided you have a concealed carry permit.)

I always have a truck gun. But I don't live in a area where I really need it, and trucks get broke into.
Something big, I put a shirt or jacket on top of, to secure it. I have been wanting one, with glock mags. I was hoping prices would come down, and availabilty. Bad people get ahold of guns just fine. |
If it was a SHTF gun, I would have it in bag or such. If you got a car, than in the trunk. For me a gun left in a vehicle is meant for quick use.

There is hardly a week that goes by where my local newspaper doesn't have in the police log that a gun was stolen out of a vehicle. Leaving anything of value in a vehicle especially a firearm is tempting fate to have it stolen.

If I lived in area where cars were getting broke into alot, I am change my mind, due to financial loss. Same as I would not leave a GPS in my truck.
I personnally consider my safety more important. Criminals are not at a loss to get guns. Leaving it out of sight, in a good area, it ethically acceptable to me. |
Why leave a firearm in a vehicle when you can carry it on your person so it is always with you and no one can steal it? It has nothing to do with ethics but everything to do with common sense and good judgement. I would hate to be the person who had their gun stolen out of their vehicle and then the person who stole it shot someone with it because they were careless with the security of the gun.

BUT a crook is a crook, break into a car, home or?? its THEM doing the wrong, if the gun is NOT in plain view, your NOT asking for it to be stolen, you cannot prevent crooks there every where sadly today! Now, I am a licensed CCW holder, act 235 holder and done atc 120! I still cannot enter a place where its illegal for me to carry, be it a court house or the likes IF I want to carry from my home to THERE , what am I supposed to do with my gun?? leave it at home, and if so, how does that help m,e use my ccw I legally have NOPE< I will leave the gun in my vehicle while I go and do what ever I need to do, in a place I cannot legally still carry?? That's one example next, I carry a rifle or shotgun, for what ever reason(used to shoot a lot of matches (and hunts)all over the USA) I am NOT going to carry my rifle into a place to eat or go shopping< so, I leave it in my LOCKED vehicle! another example! NOW< back to where I know you's will go, that;'s NOT the same as leaving a gun 24/7/365 in a vehicle, YES I get that BUT here we go I used to manage lands where I needed a rifle or shotgun at times, so, never knowing when I would need them, it was WAY easier for me to L:EAVE them in my truck, 24/7, so when I needed them, they were there, and I didn;t have to carry them in and out of my house every time I went , and I didn;t ALWAYS know I was going to be needed at "X" property, so some days, if they were NOT already in my vehicle, I would be making special trips back home to get them, or, some times that wasn;'t even an option. I kept things locked in a gun vault IN my truck, but many times they were just locked in the truck! I think all responsible gun owners should do what all they can to see there guns DON"T get stolen, but the fact is, crooks are out there, and break into homes .cabins and hotel rooms, just as often as they MAYBE do vehicles, I don't facts, but, after having a gun shop, and hearing about folks getting guns stolen over the yrs many times, it was always more of them being taken from homes, and NOT cars. most cars I knew of broken into, were for stereo's being stolen, or just grabbing loose change and the likes?? I'm going to take a guess here, and say, a LARGE number of gun owners don't even have ALL there guns serial numbers written down, which to me is crazy< But again yrs of selling guns, and dealing with stolen guns, SO few have this info at HOME also so FEW have gun safes too? so, to me, if a person wishes to keep a gun in there vehicle, I personally can see many reasons to do so, but I would strongly suggest securing it best you can, as in a gun vault in said vehicle, do all you can to be safe, a carry gun, works to protect yourself in a vehicle IMO if you feel the need to have fast access to an assault weapon, or the likes, , I would start to look at the, what and why that is?? LOL |
I am not offended, I just don't think it is wise to leave a forearm in a vehicle. I go into the county courthouse all the time carrying a handgun. When I walk through the door I go straight to the Deputy Sheriffs manning the metal detector and tell them I am armed. They then check my permit and ****** me to some gun lockers where I place my gun and give them the key. When I leave the courthouse I go to them and they ****** to the gun locker and give me the key and I retrieve my gun and leave the building. Would you leave a bar of gold in your vehicle and park it on a street? Thieves do not have to see valuables to break into a vehicle, they break in and see what they can find. I just don't trust tempting fate. On the rare occasion that I leave a firearm in an unoccupied vehicle like when I am in route to a location for a hunting trip and I stop for something to eat. I park my truck so no one can drop my tailgate and access the firearms in the bed. Yep, thieves will be thieves, but I refuse to make it easy for them.
