What if........

....... civilization ended, and you had to hunt for your food. What weapon would you choose, and why?

Bow?

Rifle?

Handgun?

Muzzleloader?

Shotgun?

Remember, civilization has ended, so supplies would be very limited.

NOTE* I posted this in the bowhunting forum but wanted to see if there were different responses from this group.

RE: What if........

If civilization ended......Well, I have a good stock of ammo for all of my guns, plus I handload and bowhunt, and probably could devise some effective primitive traps. I think I could get meat as long as the wildlife population didn' t diminish drastically along with the demise of civilization. If survival is at stake, I would not limit myself to one weapon and do whatever it takes. Interesting question though.:)

Kind of a weird question... obviously, if there is no ability to buy bullets ever again, and you have to pick one weapon to survive the rest of your and your family' s lives, you have to pick a bow - only thing with reuseable ammo. If civilization ended today, though, my family would have three muzzleloaders with ammo for probably 50+ kills, 6 ' deer killing' rifles with ammo for 600+ kills, .22s to kill about 10,000 squirrels, three 12 gauges for 50+ kills (deer) and 25+ kills (bird/squirrel), and a 20 gauge for 25 kills... before we had to break out the bows. I think that would make us pretty old. [8D]

Shotgun. Shot for birds and small game and slugs for big game.

I would go with a 30.06 Sprg., and when the ammo ran out I would make a bow. Good luck.

A bolt action .22.
Will kill anything that you need to eat.
Will work just fine against any predator short of bears.

2nd choice would be a 1 piece longbow.

RE: What if........

tough question!! I've got enough ammo to last a long time, but it'd eventually run out. So I'd have to go with my bow. Like others have said, the ammo is re-usuable and I've got a truckload of old arrows stockpiled.

RE: What if........

I'd use them all until I ran out of ammo. Just because civilization ended does not mean that my firearms and ammo disappeared.

Of course, for a few years I would have to save some ammo for the anti gun, tree hugging, vegetable eating, liberal jerk offs that would be trying to steal my hard earned meat because they were too stupid to fend for themselves. At least until they all died off or got shot. I wonder how tree hugger tastes. Probably not too good.[:'(];)

Put away a 308 or 06 or 223 that comes with iron sights along with a couple hundred rounds of ammo. A good stick and a long bow could be used if you want to hunt silently.

RE: What if........

I would use a .22 rifle. The ammo is cheap enough that I always have tens, of thousands of rounds on hand. And like Brimmin said, it will kill anything you need. I would also use a muzzleloader. The powder is reativly simple to make, people have been doing it for thousands of years. Either in flinklock, or cap. Caps are not to hard to make either. And big bulls, Liberal tree huggers taste good if you use a little BBQ sauce. Just throw away the heads...They've had those up their you-know-whats for too many years, it would kind of foul the taste a bit.:D
