BURRIS SCOPE PROBLEM.....??????
 

HI, i have a burris signature 6x-24x 44mm scope on a remington 700 vssf 22-250 rifle. My problem is that i can not get the crosshairs lined up with the bullet placement. It is shooting too low on paper (about 6" -7" low at 50 yards) I can not get anymore vertical adjustment. Has anyone else ever had this problem, or offer any solutions besides buying a different scope. thanks also the rings are medium size so the scope can not go any lower...thanks.

Why are you sighting in at 50 yards when that rifle will shoot 400-500 yards??

Could one reason it may be shooting low at 50 yards is that the bullet is still rising on it' s trajectory to the target and you are adjusting the scope too much? Where is it shooting at 100 yards? 200 yards? 300 yards?

I' d recomment you re-sight in at 100 yards (with impact 1" -1.5" high) and then see where it' s hitting at 50.

Wby460, You don' t say if the point of impact (PI) moved with your vert. adjustment or not. If not, the scope is bad. If it did, but not enough, your mounting is wrong or at least needs shimming. You can buy or make steel shims for use under your base(s) to correct your problem. Be sure to center the vert. adjust. before you shim so you have full range of adjust. when you have it roughly centered with shims. This is where a bore sighter comes in handy. Also, I always shoot at 25 yds. to rough sight a scope as that will put me in the black at 100. After that, shoot at 100 for load development and shooting practice, and longer distances for hunting practice. The best way to make 300 yd. shoots is to practice them. Good luck.

Ridgerunner, it could be that he' s just not adjusting the scope properly, and the round is still rising from the barrel to it' s highest point in the trajectory which will be well downrange. Of course, we are all assuming he' s moving the scope in the right direction. He needs to see where it' s hitting at 100 yards to see what' s going on. But first, he needs to get it bore sighted. That alone will help to determine what the problem may be.

thanks guys for the ideas, first, i measured my scope height and from the center of the barrel to the center of the scope i am 1.6" , so i am pretty sure thats acceptable.

second, i did try to bore sight it, and it seems like i cant bring it in that way either.

i really dont think trying it at 100 yds will help.

i will call burris monday and see what they say, but it looks like i will be selling it on ebay...the shims just dont sound like a good idea to me. i think you have a good chance at bending the scope that way. thanks.

You have got to let that 22-250 flatten out first. Fifty yards for a 22-250 is just too short. Let it run, turn the scope up, shoot some good ammunition for it, and enjoy.
