Does the 6.5 Creed have any real advantage over a 6.5x55?

Couple hundred fps slower, but less powder, Lapua brass, and fits in a short action without needing to cram longer bullets down into the powder space. Take your pick as to whether anything but the brass is a "real advantage" to you or not.

It's not magic, and doesn't really do anything a dozen other cartridges before it didn't do, but it's the hot new thing, the talk of the town. When it falls short of a more powerful cartridge, the guys get to say the barrel life is better and recoil is less, when it matches an existing cartridge, guys get to say it truly fits in a short action, when it recoils more than a .243AI or 6br, they say it bucks the wind better... Always something it does better for everything it does worse.

I wanted an excuse to buy a Ruger Precision Rifle (guilty pleasure - like riding a motor scooter), but didn't want another 308 or 243. Doesn't do anything my 260, 280, 7-08, Swede, 7maus, or even really my 243AI don't do, and doesn't keep up with a handful of them - the 280, 7maus and x55, 7wsm, 7rm, etc... Would have bought a 7-08 RPR with glee. Would still kinda like to have one in .300wm, or maybe even 338LM or 338-300.

I would definitely agree with that statement. Sometimes you just want something! I fell in that category. I would definitely caution someone that wasn't a reloader against it. There are a lot cheaper options if you like to shoot a lot and are using off the shelf ammo.

not in ballistics or killing power, the swede the 260 and the creed are ballisticaly triplets. looking at the nosler reloading manual, the swede is showing about 50fps faster but doing it with 10 gr more powder. but some say the creed is inherently more accurate with its case design.

Inherent accuracy due to case design is a bunch of malarkey, any cartridge in a quality rifle can be just as accurate as any other.

I wouldn't mind a .22 Creed, now that might be a winner!

numbers from hodgdon data
6.5 creed 140 gr 2555 fps @60,400 PSI
260 140 gr 2677 fps @58,400 PSI
6.5x55 140 gr 2517 @45,700 PSI
SAAMI specs for the 6.5x55 are lower due to older military rifles it came chambered in, its been known for a long while that in modern firearms loaded to max pressures in that firearm it will run away from the 260, and badly trounce the creed. there is no magic in efficiency, the faster you run a bullet the more powder it requires, its not possible for less powder in a smaller case to make more velocity with the same weight bullet

Adam, a 22 creed would be almost exactly a 22-250 AI, be a decent rifle in an 8 twist, I would prefer the 22/6mm AI even though ya need a long action

A 22-250 ack requires fire forming, I'm kinda over fire forming these days. A 22/6mm would be sweet for the 90gr Berger tho.

ya go argue that to the 6m br shooters, in particular the ones who set world records with it.

The reason i asked is because Tikka and CZ offer rifles in 6.5x55 and ive always be very fond of the cartridge.
