Bullet selection
I am shooting a Browning A-Bolt 300wsm with a 150 grain winchester Balistic Silvertip. I have not shot a deer with it yet, which is all I am hunting for now. I shoot 1" groups at 100 yards, so it shoots well.
My question is how is the performance (performance of putting down an animal)of this bullet at close range, say under 50 yards? How well would the Winchester Super-X 180 grain perform? I would like something that will perform well out to 200 yards, would it be worth tring the Super-X or just stick with the Balistic Silvertip as long as they are shooting good? Thanks for the help. |
RE: Bullet selection
Stick with the 150 grain BT' s. There is absolutly no reason to use a 180 grain bullet on deer size animals. From 50 yards to 500 yards the 150 grain ballistic tip will kill any deer out there. Deer are not big animals and do not require the penetration that a 180 grain bullet would provide. As it is, you will probably never recover any of the 150 BT' s shooting at deer.
