257 weatherby

I was just offered an older left hand ( I am left handed)weatherby mark V in 257 weatherby for 800.00 and was wandering if it is a ok deal? Gun has had just a couple boxes through it. It has a scope on it that I believe also has weatherbys name on it and comes with a coulple boxes of ammo and a couple boxes of empties.

Seen them go for $600 up to $2200. It's according to the model. Vanguard, Delux, Lazermark, Terramark, all kinds of "mark". If it's a vanguard, and I am kinda guessing it is, then that is more than likely "top dollar" for that one. If it's a lazermark, jump fast and hard! Shove $800 in the mans hand before he has sense enough to figure out he is getting robbed! If memory serves, that scope is made by one of 2 makers. The earlier "weatherby scopes" were made by Hertel and Ruess and were pretty good scopes. You can tell it's one of them by the turrets both being on top. One is a focal adjustment and the other is the wind/elv combined. The later ones I BELIEVE but not 100% sure was an earlier Nikon make. Not a bad scope either for the time it was made. Was Nikons "fledgling" days of scope making.

Weatherby Mark V

The German manufacture scopes were labeled as Imperial and had the adjustment & focus turrets located on the top of the scope. The Japanese scopes labeled as Weatherby had turrets on top for elevation and on the right side for windage. These were early version Nikon optics. If you're sure the rifle is a Mark V & definitely not a Vanguard I'd purchase it in a flash with the condition you describe. Look over on GunBroker and you can see $800.00 is a great price for the rifle alone.

Definitely not a vangaurd. It is a markV

Lots of people think the Vanguard is a Mark V model and advertise it as such Grinder.

I'd want to check the throat and bore first, but if they're in good shape I'd definitely take the offer.

What the other guys said. I'm not much of a Weatherby fan but that 257 is a dandy cartridge. One I wouldn't mind owning. I'm a lefty too.

I bought it. It is a Mark V made in germany. The scope is the type with 2 nobs/turrets on top and it also came with 3 boxes of weatherby ammo and a forth box of empties. Not sure how old they are but the price on the boxes was just over $6.

If it is in the shape you initially were told, then you got yourself a very good deal then buddy! Pre Japanese Weatherby with an old Hertel and Ruess scope in even just "good" condition is well worth $800. It being lefty kinda detracts a bit (you would think it would raise the value but it doesn't) but not all that much.
