Question about my 444 marlin were it was made

I have. Marlin 444 336C the serial number starts 06 and from what I've found it was made in 1994... I've read that if marlin made it before Remington took over there would be a stamp on barrel near reciever I think JM... And if Remington made it there would be a stamp of REM... I have no stamp on barrel by reciever...

The barrel is marked made in new haven...
I'm pretty sure my gun was made by marlin before Remington took over... I'm just curious about this stamp on barrel that my gun does not have?

The Remington takeover was way after 1994. I have a 2009 Marlin 1894 and it has a JM stamp. It was made after the Remington takeover but before changes where made in production.

Remington acquired Marlin end of Jan. '08. Based on your statements, yours is not a Remlin. Over at Marlin.com, a member stated his rifle also has no JM proof mark and claims the serial # identifies a '90's production gun. It's possible yours isn't marked because it may not have been proof tested. This was also mentioned on their site. Remington produced rifles should bear an REP stamp, also mentioned there.

The marlin site did also mention these surplus barrels after Rem.'s takeover.

They didn't start building the Remlins in NY until 2010. The buy out was in 2007, with the first plant closure in 2008, followed by the North Haven plant closure in 2010. The Leverguns were built in North Haven, typically.

So you have a Marlin built Marlin. The proof stamp may look like a small ding - but it should have something on the left hand side (looking from the buttstock) - off ejection side, a few inches down from the receiver.
