This coming deer season I'm going to be getting a rifle for my oldest daughter and wife to hunt with it think im leaning towards a 44 magnum single shot and have kind of been leaning towards CVA HUNTER my questions are how's the recol? Is the gun very accurate? Does it have great stopiping power? Also for all the 44 magnum hunters out there what's your take on the rd performance? Any other info on 44 magnum rifles is appreciated.

to be honest. yeah , recoil is probably gonna be more then they care for.
if it were me and gun was for wife and daughter, I would go with a .243 plenty big enough for deer, and decent varmint gun also.

I don't think the recoil will be bad. I hunt with a marlin 1894 in .44mag occasionally. You single is going to be lighter, but I still don't think the recoil will be too much. Buy a good, quality hunting bullet for it and it'll kill deer within reasonable ranges.

The 336 is not made in 44mag. It's a completely different action - the rifle length 1895/336 are different than the pistol carbine action of the 1894.

A hot 300grn loads in 44mag leveraction isn't too dissimilar from a typical 30-06 bolt action in recoil. In 225-240grn loads, it's a little more friendly, but it's still not a "pop gun."

My wife - 5'3" and 130lbs - shoots an 1895 45-70, recoil tolerance is equal parts technique, equipment, and mentality.

I think in Indiana your stuck with shot gun, muzzle loader or pistol/rifle with straight wall cases.

That leaves out a lot of nice bottle neck case deer rifles rounds.

as long as its 357 diameter or larger, and a case length of like 1.6" you can use any rifle you choose, d-tech builds an indy legal 358 in an AR that's based on the wssm case, also the 450 bushy, and 458 socom are legal, as is the 50 beauwolfe. lots of options.

Recoil would still be better than most other offerings. If your still worried about it the .357 magnum is just fine with the right bullet. I have killed 9 Indiana deer with a .357 magnum and it will kill them just as dead at shot ranges you will encounter in the flat wooded lots around here. It is not a beanfield or shoot them across the ridge rifle though, the .450 bushmaster is my go-to rifle for that but probably too heavy for your wife and kids the way mine is set up.

I have a Marlin 1894c and a Ruger 77/357 they can try out just PM me. I have factory 158 grain ammo and some 180 grain reloads. Unfortunately I don't have any .44 magnum rifles at this time however.
