I have been a owner of 25-06 for a long time. When I've first encountered with this particular caliber, a friend of mine shot over a thousand yard during deer hunting. I was appalled how impressive this caliber can perform. I've used 308 for few years before I had a change of heart to switch over to 25-06. All I can really say it is an amazing caliber between 85gr to 117gr. I zeroed mine for 200 yards with 115gr. I can shoot at point blank range to 200 yards without any problems. The state I reside in have vast amount of open range. It does it's job and I haven't hunted with any other calibers since.

Welcome to the site Wildcat, thats an awesome round, my brother has a .25-06 that he uses for white-tail, he's shot a lot of deer with it. That being said I also love the .308 and the various family it has, like the 6.5 Creedmoor, 338 Fed, .358. Did you get a deer with it yet this year?

Thank you for welcoming me on this site. Yes, I killed a nice buck this year with 25-06. As matter of fact, it was within 40 yards this year. I, personally, never made a 1000 yard shot before, but I am up for that challenge this coming year. Furthest shot I've shot, according to RangeFinder, was 763 yards few years ago. Weather was perfect. Crisped air, few sun rays between the hills, and wide open shot from hilltop to hilltop. I missed the 1st shot, but I followed up with a second shot and killed a very nice 10 pointer buck. I am aware of other fine calibers out there among with 6.5 Creedmore, 30-376, 7mm-08, 243 WSSM, 25 WSSM, 257 Roberts and Mag, but I've felt 25-06 was the best choice for me. 30-376 blew my mind, but the price of ammunination is outrageous.115gr Federal Sierra Gameking is the perfect choice for my Pre-64 Winchester Model 70.

I suspect you will hear some negative comments about shooting at game over 700 yds. away. Having said that, the 25-06 must be a great deer caliber. My son bought one a couple of years ago and he loves it. I tried to raise him right; started him on a 30-30, went to a 243 then to a 30-06. Then I had him pick up a stainless Marlin X7 25-06 at a sale for me to raffle off at a fundraiser. He fell in love with it on the way home and we had to raffle something else. I think you are right, it is a great caliber.

I owned a 25-06 back in 1990. Shot two bucks with it before it was stolen. Sweet caliber but no more a "magic death ray" than any of my other fast steppers.
700+ yds at deer with one? You certainly didn't overload that bucks CNS with energy nor do I suspect there was any exit wound for better blood loss & tracking. But at least you found him.
