Ruger Vaquero
Hey guys, I am looking at getting a Ruger Vaquero, Color Case Blued, Ivory grips, Bisley, in .45 long Colt. Anyone have one? How do they shoot? I have a Blackhawk in .357 mag, and I know they are built on the same frame, but I like the lines of the Bisley Vaquero. Thanks fellas.

RE: Ruger Vaquero
BigBore,
I have been eyeing the Bisley .45LC also,I also have two Flat top Blackhawks in .44 mag(shoot great).Everyone I have talked two with the Vaquero/Bisley or Bisley say the shoot great, hold a flater line with the (I will call it the comb) grips,I have a freind that killed a BIG bull elk with his and Buffalo Bore Ammo, almost matches the .454 Casule. Next spring I might have one,the reason I don' t pick the Vaquero is the fixed sights.BBJ |
RE: Ruger Vaquero
I have three Vaquero' s in 45colt, one of them is a Bisley.
They all shoot great, especially since I bored the cylinders out to fit the .452 bullets. Don' t know why Ruger makes the front of the cylinder smaller than the bullets. Manson makes a reamer that you can buy from Brownell' s. I paid for mine by doing other peoples cylinders at $20 a piece. It will also stop a lot of leading in the forcing cone and barrel. (I only use lead bullets) Good luck |
RE: Ruger Vaquero
Thanks for the quick replies fellas. I would rather have adjustable sights, but as I said I already have a Blakchawk, and I just like the Vaquero for the lines and the look of it. Again, thanks for your thoughts, think I will add one to the collection of " explain this [:@]" next weekend.

I thought they were coming out with a bisley superblackhawk hunter. You may want to look into that one.

Great gun but I stay away from anything with fixed sights.

RE: Ruger Vaquero
Yeah single actions are awesome, plus I think that I am John Wayne :D. I went and got the gun, waiting till midterms are over to get some shooting in. I can' t wait! By the way, did anyone ever hear of all this alleged " reading" in college? You' d think that if a fella got a new gun, needed to go on a hunt, something along those lines, it would be an excused absence. Hell, if one of my professors wanted to go on a hunt I would excuse him!

RE: Ruger Vaquero
I have a Vaquero 45 5.5 barrel. It is a joy to shoot. I carry it for bears occationally. Got a hand load from a guide in Alaska. 300gr hard cast velocity @ 1400fps. Fired hundreds of these rounds without cases sticking or stretching. So from 800fps cowboy loads to 1400fps boomers I' m happy with mine

RE: Ruger Vaquero
I' ve got a couple vaquero' s, a couple in .44mag, a couple in .32H&R, one in .357mag, I' ve used the .32 and the .357 extensively for coyotes, and plan on taking one of the .44mags this year on whitetails (always previously used a superblackhawk). I had a few S&W' s and a colt or two before I bought my first vaq, and I don' t know that I' ll ever go back for anything short of collectors pieces or somthing ruger doesn' t make (i.e. my MR BFR .45-70).
