I have the TC Encore with the 20ga slug barrel and can't say enough good things about it. I also have a half dozen other barrels to go with the same action, if you are concerned about TC quality you can buy barrels from bulberry barrel works in a plethora of cartridges. I would say take the plunge and buy a very versatile base....muzzle loading, rifle, and shotgun!

I seen a 12ga USH thumb hole yesterday on the computer for 250.00. If he had been a little closer I would have bought it. I would have had to save it for my son as I shoot left handed and do not use a slug gun anyway but I have shot these on a range and was really impressed!

As to the enough power to kill deer at 200 yards, any slug, 12 or 20, delivered to the vitals at 200 yards, will kill deer.
I would say that if you wanted to put in the bench time and practice a lot, a 220 would be one of the current slug guns that would fit the bill along side a few others. I have also heard the 20s are more accurate than the 12s.
Also, I see Bass Pro has the 220 20 gauge on the front page of their current sales paper at $499.97, usually $529.99. They also have the Nikon Slug Hunter scope on the cover for $199 which would make for a nice package.
But knowing Bass Pro the quantities in store always seem to be very limited and for some reason they can't seem to tell you when they can get one even though they are stacked in their distribution warehouses.

i had a 220 & took a deer @ 250 yrds ran about 10 yrds & piled up . my second choice would be a ithaca deerslayer 2 or 3 , as for h&r they are no longer produced they are owned by remington arms i have a 444 marlin & a 45/70 both in h&r & they shoot great just a 7 lb trigger
now in ohio i use a marlin 45/70 big loop guide gun & use the hornady leverution ammo & it's a tack driver but if was you i'd stick with the muzzy more accurate than a shotgun & on days i feel challenged for a nice open field i take my t/c triumph
