New Ruger Super Duper Blackhawk!!!!

Ruger finally listened - it's here!!! The Big Bore Ruger Super Blackhawk!

How many folks are waiting to get their hands on the new Ruger Super Blackhawk 5 shot in 454Casull and 480Ruger?

Ruger did this one right - they could have simply dropped an enlarged carpenter cylinder into a Super Blackhawk frame, but they took the steps forward to build a recessed chamber cylinder and strap on a Bisley grip frame to help tame the savage recoil of these large bore rounds. Oh, and I forgot the first go 'round - they slapped the 5" ejector rod and housing on it (formerly only available on the 10.5" models) and 6.5" barrels for a little extra speed and a little extra ejection.

My local shop has me on a wait list for both the 454C and the 480, at $720 a piece. I had an SBH converted to .475Linebaugh a number of years ago, for all intents and purposes, ended up with a very similar model to this factory piece, but I paid about 4x as much!!!

So who else is looking to get one of these hand cannons?

While it's a nice piece, I have enough in the hand cannon department. I keep trying to tell myself that and one day I might actually listen to myself huh! It sure is purdy. Lets see, I already have both the hawks in .44mag a couple Vacs in .45lc and then to take care of the "oh hell no I don't want to shoot that more than 5 times in a row" cannons I have 2 S&W .500 in 8 and 4 inch. Maybe that .454cas would fit in nicely in between?

Hmmm, looks like a #5 grip to me.:D That is a lot of gun.

Too much for me and my arthritic hands. I do like Ruger's though.

I've been writing letters - they're taking the rebranding under advisement ;)

The "bad part" about these SBH's in 454 and 480 is that they're light (relatively). The X-Frames are actually surprisingly well behaved, despite their immense firepower - 480R, let alone 475Line out of my lighter SBH are not so well-mannered. I've personally found that I can tolerate the recoil of a large frame super-magnum, but don't tend to tolerate the extra weight carrying the extra-large frame BFR or X-Frame. The SBH, SRH, FA83 is about the size that I can tolerate hauling around.

LMAO. If you think the 4 inch .500 is "well behaved" I'd surely NOT want to fire what you call misbehaving! I can handle it but sheesh that thing is one ornery cuss! The 8 incher on the other hand is, as you say, surprisingly well behaved for what it is. Especially with the scope I have mounted on it. The 8 inch I have set up for hogging. The 4 inch is my "oh crap" backup in Brownie territory. I have to ice down my wrist and hand after practicing with that little monster.

I wonder if they will make it in the 460?

As fun as it would be to shoot a .460mag Uber Super Duper Blackhawk, she just wouldn't fit. The standard super Blackhawk cylinder has a sidewall typically in the 1.70-1.71" ballpark, plus a 60thou headspace, then you could cut down the barrel tenon at the forcing come and gain about 200thou on cylinder length, so that'd only put you in the 1.97" coal tolerance, and the .460's a 2.3" round. So a guy would have to cut almost 4 tenths of an inch out of the frame window.

Maybe if they bring back the Maximum Blackhawk frame, then it'd probably work, and I'd be into it! The carpenter cylinder for this 454c model is spec'd to hold the pressure a 460 would generate, it's just too short to fit.
