Elk hunting bullet choices
I shoot a 30.06 and wonder what style bullet to use. Im trying to decide between the Nosler Partition, swift a frame, or trophy bonded bearclaw. to tell u the truth I dont know the difference.

RE: Elk hunting bullet choices
ROCHELLE,
I've used the Sierra 165 grain and 180 grain SBT as well the Nosler 165 and 180 grains partition. All four have given good results. If the elk had been hit with a 100 grain .243 Win I think would have dropped just as quickly. I'm a firm advocate of bullet placement. When properly hit with a reasonable bullet, game dies. When gut shot with a .375 H&H, they run off. I'd suggest the the Nosler Partition. It will expand at long range and penetrate at close range. I hope that this will be of some help. |
RE: Elk hunting bullet choices
As all the previous replies say, all the bullets you listed are good choices. But, to paraphrase Ed Crossman's statement about the 30/06, anyone In America has the freedom to choose a different bullet than the Nosler Partiton Jacket, but it is no great tribute to his intelligence if he does so!

When I'm not using a bow I also use a 30-06. I recommend the 180gr Nosler Partition for Elk.
