pachmyr grips ruger blackhawk
 

I bought grips for my new ruger Blackhawk. presentation grips. im having a problem installing them. there is a roll pin through the frame that seems to be holding the front of the grips apart. can the roll pin be removed so the grips will close together? any help will be appreciated.

I think you are talking about the trigger spring retaining spring, you want to leave that alone. Install the grips and put lots of presure on the grip where the pin is. It should leave a mark. Then take a small drill bit about the size of the pin and drill a small shallow hole by spinning the drill between your themb and forefinger till it is deep enough for the pin to fit in. If you have your owners manual check the exploded view page and look for the pin number, then check it against the list to find out if it is the trigger spring pin.

its not the trigger spring retainer. its a roll pin located at the bottom of the frame toward the front of the frame. it looks like its used to keep the plastic grips in place. its keeping the pachmyr grips from closing tight around the frame.

Just do whatI suggested and they will fit. Here is an exploded diagram, where is the pin? Is it number 51?

its #21. it goes in the hole toward the front of the frame at the bottom of the frame. its used to steady the plastic grips.

There are 3 pins in the grip frame. One is a flush cut trigger reset spring pivot pin - a solid piece of pin-stock at the rear of the trigger guard, one is the trigger spring retainer pin - a splined pin with a turned head on each end at the top of the grip frame backstrap, and one is the grip locator pin - a roll pin at the toe of the grip frame.

The grip locator pin is what you're talking about.

You don't necessarily NEED the locator pin on the Super Blackhawks with the Pachmayr grips, since the grips wrap around grip frame, but it does help keep them from wallering around a bit. If the locator pin holes in the grips aren't deep enough, you can either file some length off of the locator pin or drill the grips a bit deeper.

51 in that diagram is the trigger spring pivot pin, which does not protrude from the sides of the frame. The grip panels need to fit flush against the frame in this area to hold this pin in place.

I think you meant to refer to part 54, which is kinda hard to tell which is which in the small diagram at midway. Part 54 is the trigger spring retaining pin, which is the splined double headed pin at the top rear of the grip backstrap. This pin holds the legs of the trigger reset spring. The ends of this pin do stick out of the frame to hold the trigger springs, but they are sunk into the recesses of the grip frame such that the grips do not need to be inlet to allow clearance for this pin. If that pin ever DOES contact a grip panel, it's somehow drifted too far to one side, or the user has incorrectly cut down the width of the backstrap. The molded grooves in the pachmayr grips are wider than this pin is long, so it can't make contact with that pin.

The only protruding pin that can contact grips in a Ruger single action grip frame - which is also the only of the 3 pins to be a roll pin - is the grip locator pin.
