My great great uncle hunted with a mauser 98 in 8mm he brought back from the war from Berlin in a warehouse that was stacked to the top with them. He brought 3 of them back for him and his two brothers. My great grandfather had his rebarrel to 30/06 then solid it sometime later and the other brother ended up in New Mexico so don't know what happens to it. But my father inherited his my great great uncle's. Dad carried it once after he got it but never killed anything with. My uncle killed probably a hundred deer with that rifle and at least one turkey.

7.5x55 Swiss. In the last 6 years, I've taken 13 deer and an elk with it.

I've got a Springfield Model 1898 in 30-40 Krag that I play with every once in awhile. I also have a Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 1903 in 6.5x54 MS which was originally a rifle made for the Greek Army.

I have several, but I don't hunt with them. I gave my 1917 Enfield to a son, still have a regular .303 Enfield. I also have a 1908 Brazilian Mauser in 7MM, two '96 Mausers in 6.5X55. I gave my 1903A1 to another son. The 1917 Enfield had been rebuilt into a sporting rifle, it was made by Winchester. One of the '96 Mausers I had made from parts back when you could get them, it has a new model 38 barrel, new receiver and bolt, custom stock, etc. The Mausers are my favorite of the military weapons.

Wing bone that's a fine looking rifle , thanks for the post.
And jenks the Mauser's are mine too. Can't wait for this snow and cold weather
To give us a break so I can hit the range and shoot.

Sported 6.5x55 SE. It is not my No.1 rifle, but has served me well and I use us it as a "lender". I'm guessing 30-35 deer killed with it. Ironically it is the best grouping rifle that own and will essentially print dang near same hole 3-shot groups at 100 yards with a particular hand load I have worked up. Makes me wornde why i do not use it more often.

I've taken a 7 point buck with an 1899 Krag .30-40. I've taken a coyote with my Mosin Nagant, haven't poked a deer with it yet.
