Marlin lever action question

I recently acquired a Marlin Model 30 AW. I plan to put a scope on it but I'm wondering will a Marlin 336 base fit it? It looks identical to a 336 but I wanted to know of anybody on here knew. Thanks

If you don't get an answer here google Marlin owners theres a web thatll come up. Youll get your answer there

Yes the 30AW is the same gun as a 336, it's just a cheaper/baseline model with fewer bells & whistles (cheaper stocks being the main diff) but the chassis are identical.

Thank yall. Also what's y'all's opinion on the see thru style mounts? All my other centerfire rifles and my 17 HMR have the DNZ game reaper mounts and I love them but thought about tryin see thru mounts on this 30-30.

I do not like the see through mounts. The scope sits so high that it is hard to get your cheek properly on the stock.

See-through mounts sound like a good idea and many inexperienced hunters buy them. Most go to conventional mounts pretty quickly when they get some actual experience.

Yep, see through mounts put a scope way too high to get a proper cheek weld most of the time and there is usually no need to go to the iron sight anyway. The same thing happens when guys go to these big 50mm objective lenses on scopes when a good 40mm is all that's needed.

For see-thru mounts it's is a given, it's 100% impossible to have a good cheekweld with both the sights and the scope. But having a 50mm objective doesn't really have anything to do with improper cheek weld. If a 40mm scope fits your eye position on a given stock, then adding a ~5mm cheek shim/riser gets you proper to a 50mm scope.

Don't use see-thrus. If you want to be able to use the irons, us QD scope mounts and just remove the scope when desired.
