223 load
just got a new 223 that i intend to use for coyotes. what factory load would you recommend? i see alot of 50 grain loads but was thinking i might want a little heavier bullet.

I use 55gr pointed soft point. seldom have one run away when hit.I also like the 45gr hollow points. often has only entrance no exit wound .shot a big mtn lion at 100 yards useing that load. him never even twitched.

ultramax reman ammo, I shoot them in my 5 223's and they all like it, my 223's are twisted 8,9,10,12 and they all shoot the 55 gr sp ultramax reman well, and they are cheap when bought by the case when you can find them.

The 50 and 55grn 223 loads are popular for coyotes because they're about the perfect balance for killing power and fur-friendliness and trajectory.
My wife's been shooting Hornady "Factory 2nd" 75grn A-Max's in her Savage 12 a bit this year, only taken a few dogs this summer/early fall with them. They're a bit rough if you hit anything hard. Barrel length and twist matters a lot for the heavy pills. They're disastrously slow and not properly stabilized in my 1:9" carbines, but the 75's shoot fairly well in 24" and 26" 1:9's. |
I use a 55gr. hornady V-max in my .223/5.56 with my AR (20" barrel w/ 7 twist).
Seem to work well (for ME !). |
