Replacement Triggers
 

Which factory replacement ("drop in") trigger do you like the best for a hunting bolt action rifle ?

Depends on the model I suppose. For Rem's, I splurge for Jewel (gonna go, go big!!!), AR's are Geisselle/Bushmaster/RRA, Ruger 77's Timney's are the standard. Haven't decided to re-trigger a Savage yet, nor a CZ.

What you looking to re-trigger?

can you have your current trigger worked on ? if not timney has great triggers!!

Piece of crap Remington 700 SPS DM in .243.

Shot under MOA for me for years.............With a basic trigger job too !

Need to replace the barrel and put a decent trigger in it (Timney or Basix I'm thinking).

Shilen does a nice 700 trigger as well. I've heard good things about the Rifle Basix, but haven't owned one myself. For what it's worth, the Jewell costs almost twice as much as the rest of the fleet, but the Shilen is barely more than a factory replacement.

As far as JP triggers go, I've only had one of them on an AR, and to be honest, I've had the same results by treating the sear engagements and adding JP springs to any ol' milspec trigger, so I figure why buy a $100 trigger when a $10 spring kit and an hour of my time on the sear fixture can do the same job? If a fella doesn't own a trigger fixture, then sure, the JP's a lot better deal!

Taking a page out of your own book, Sheridan, recalling that you use the same scope and reticle on all of your rifles, I can relate that I like to have the same trigger feel. A bit heavier set Jewell or Geis on a hunting rifle gives the same feel, but with a safer weight. They're expensive, but cry once, smile often ;)

I've done two Timney 510 triggers in Rem 700's lately and they are awesome for the price. Out of the box at about 2.5lbs and crisp. For a complete trigger including safety they are a great deal. I also have one on a Ruger and it is just as good. I got mine off eBay for about $130.

Only had one model 700,but really liked the Timney I had on it. Pretty easy install; dead blow hammer, drift punch, screw driver, and a little sand paper.

yeah and timmney are made in the usa right here in arizona not sure about the others?

I had the exact same gun and caliber I turned into a heavy 6mm x 284. I bought the Rifle Basix trigger that was 2.2 lbs to 1.5 lbs. I left it at 2.2 lbs for when the kids shoot the rifle and it's a really nice trigger. Paid $175.00 installed worth the money. The original trigger pull was 5.8 lbs on the SPS 700. I do think it's time Remington re vamped their trigger system, they are not that great to begin with.

I'm also a fan of Timneys, have used and installed them for the last 18 years.
