.300 Win.Mag. to 6.5mm Rem.Mag.?
 

Could I simply re-barrel the .300? I know it would be a short action cartridge on a long action... but aside from that, would it be that simple?

basicly yes, the 6.5 would probably do better on a long action if you wanted to use heavy bullets and seat them long to get the most out of the case capacity, personaly would prolly opt for a 264 winny if I was doing it. at the very least I would improve the case with a sharp shoulder.
