I' ve done both and probably will again. I stopped bow hunting for a while because I lacked the time to practice and stay sharp with it .

A bad shoulder for which there is no cure has ended any chance of bow hunting for me. Rifle only. I quess I could shoot a crossbow.

I do both and have so for many years, bow, muzzleloader and gun and I get just as much out of one as I do the other,Think I was born with a bow in one hand and a gun in the other.:)
I am in my 60' s and every year I say just let me live through this hunting season.

I hunt both cartridge arms and bows. (I also hunt handguns and shotguns annually)

But there' s something to be said for the fact that there are four ways to ' gun hunt' , rifles, hanguns, shotguns, and Muzzleloaders, while threre' s really only two ways to bow hunt, predominantly only one way really, compounds, with recurve having a very small following and long bows being almost non-existent.

RE: Gun Vs. Bow

I' m strongly considering trying my hand at bow hunting. Last year I had my heart set on getting a bow, but other events syphoned off the money saved for that purpose. Now I think I' m going to start saving again to buy a new bow in the spring.

In Iowa the only legal weapons are bow, shotgun, muzzleloader and handgun. The advantage to bow hunting is that bow season is by far the longest deer season, running from Oct. 1-Dec. 5th, and then from Dec. 22nd through Jan. 10th, pausing in the middle for the two shotgun seasons.

The other bonus to bow hunters is that one can buy two " any-sex" tags, one for bow and one for one of the gun seasons, plus any additional " antlerless-only" tags good for any season. If one just gun hunts (regardless of type of gun), then they can only get one " any-sex" tag.

I' m a hunter. I don' t consider myself to be a bowhunter, rifle hunter, shotgun hunter etc. Just a hunter. I use a bow during bow season.
