.243 Win. to 6MM Rem. ?

As a 6MM Remington fan, it's sad that they are no longer in production. I was lucky enough to get a Remington 700 CDL Special Edition in 6MM and I love it! But for everyday use I would like to get something in 6MM that would be a good, cheap shooter. I am thinking about getting a H&R Handi Rifle or similar single shot rifle
My question is could the chamber of a .243 be bored to 6MM Remington?

The 6mm Rem case is only 0.188" longer than a .243 Win, so I would think there is enough steel in the barrel for that modification, but the gunsmith doing the re-chambering should be able to tell you for sure.

Piece of cake...

Even with the taper of the 6mm? The diameter of the .243 is .454" at the shoulder and the 6mm is .429" - but the 6mm's shoulder is .165" longer from the base. I would think it would be very close.

Interesting proposition.

Thanks! I know that the 6MM is not that more potent than the .243, but I'm just a big fan of the 6MM, it's what I killed my first buck with. I had a sporterized Mauser 98 chambered in 6MM years ago but in a moment of stupidity I sold it! :(

Any reputable gunsmith can do this for you with ease.

Actually, the more I think about it, I'm not sure since it's a single shot. If it was a bolt gun then you could just set it back and rechamber, but I'm not sure how a single shot would work...

He could make it into a 243 Ackley and have a winner :barmy:

That is what I was thinking. I am curious about this one.

Yeah not an easy task on a single shot as the barrel would have to be set back...possible, yes....easy (piece of cake) no. It would be easy with a bolt gun...but the work would probably cost more than the gun on a H&R.

Hmmm... I'll check into that. I thought that if it was possible, it would be easier with a single barrel. A bolt gun would be even better!
