I think with that pivot pin box welded on the shank it maybe too difficult to do it and get chucked up in the lathe square.
I thought i heard awhile ago that H&R would let you order a barrel like TC does but I could be wrong.

Any gunsmith should be able to simply ream it out with a 6mm reamer and then polish away the tooling marks since there isn't a lot of difference in the cartridges and they are both 6mm in caliber. The .243 came with a different twist to allow more range in bullet weights which is exactly why it still exists and the 6mm Rem doesn't. So if you start with a .243 in the first place it would negate that.

I know several people that turned 7mm Rem Mags into 7mm WBY mags in this manner and I've been thinking or turning one of my 375 H&Hs into a 375 WBY by reaming it out.

About 10 years ago I was planning on doing that with my .375 H&H but there were some other things that I didn't like about that rifle, so I traded it and bought a .375 RUM. It's like a .375 H&H on steroids.

the original 244 rem had a 1:12 twist and remington changed the twist to 1:9 and the name 6mm to handle all bullet weights. But the 243 was will established by then.

Easily done in a bolt gun, not worth the expense in a SS, look for a Remington 788 in 6 mm

you can buy a new rem 700 adl and have it rechambered probably cheaper then find a 788 in 6mm. the last couple of 788 I seen they want over $500-575 them. look at the ruger 77 in 6mm I love mine it's the mark2 they stoped making it now. the 6mm is my cousin far out round he has a left hand 788 and a rem 742 in 6mm.

I think I'm going to keep searching for a used 6MM Rem. They are about as rare as hen's teeth around here! When you do find one, the prices would make you think they are made of gold! I don't know of any companies producing new 6MM's except maybe in their custom rifles. I was fortunate to get the Remington 700 CDL Special Edition 6MM, it's a tack driver and a great looking gun too. The reason I'd like another 6MM is that one day, I'd like to give the 700 CDL to my Grandson, it was made in the same year he was born.
