If Ohio passes proposed rifle law which gun?

I have a 9 year old, and an 11 year old. Both girls. They love to deerhunt. They have always been limited to a .410 for gun hunting. I was thinking of bumping them up to a 20 gauge this year........If the new proposed rifles being able to be used with straight walled cartridges pass.....would it be better to get one of these barrels for my encore, and let the grls use it? My questions are.....First off will these give a reduced amount of recoil compared to a 20 gauge? Second will they be more accurate, and shoot as far, or farther? I'll list the proposed legal calibers. If someone could guide me in the right direction of which one would yield the best performance. Here is a list, and any help is appreciated. Thanks!

.357 Magnum,
.357 Maximum,
.38 Special,
.375 Super Magnum,
.375 Winchester,
.38-55;
.41 Long Colt,
.41 Magnumn,
.44 Special,
.44 Magnum,
.444 Marlin,
.45 ACP,
.45 Colt,
.45 Long Colt,
.45 Winchester Magnum,
.45 Smith & Wesson.
.454 Casull,
.460 Smith & Wesson,
.45-70 Springfield,
.45-90,
.45-110,
.475 Linebaugh,

.44mag and .45-70 would be my recommendations. The Gov't will be stiff for your young girls, especially in the lightweight break action rifles like the Encore, so the .44mag might be a better option. Many of the others will work just fine, but for what it's worth, those two will be easiest to find in many different loads, and offer the best performance (i.e. .44mag over .45colt or .357mag for performance, .44mag over .357max for availability).

The .444M or .450M are great options as well, but the .450 is generally going to be hotter than factory .45-70 loads, so recoil impulse will be even worse.

NoMercy's right. .44mag is good choice for your needs. I would also recommend the .357mag for the same reasons and the softest shooting of the bunch. Since you're looking at a single shot anyhow, have you considered .45 or .50cal muzzleloaders? With the muzzleloaders you could move forward now too, instead of waiting on laws to pass.

tc don't make any new barrels for the encore in any of those cartridges but 45/70, 460 and 500 s&w. I would vote for the 44 magnum. I know a gentleman that has a 44 lever action that many kids killed their first deer with.

.357 magnum and .45 colt have minimal recoil in rifles. 44 magnum is the most popular pistol caliber rifle.
.460 rifles has been gaining popularity but big men say they kick hard.

.44 magnum would be a great choice for availability .44 special ammo would suit the kids till they can handle magnum ammo.

If you reload .45 colt would be a nice cartridge. Factory ammo is light and if you have a strong framed gun you can load +P ammo that is comparible to .44 magnum. Reloading the 357 allows heavier bullets and hotter rounds for more power.

haha stiff is barely the right word i have an old new england arms single shot 45-70.
it's all i use for hunting deer.
umm.. yeah dont have your daughters shoot that round. even when they are thirty years old.
It's a "mans" rifle
not to be chauvinistic, just using a phrase, because of course experienced shooters can shoot no matter the recoil or gender.
but I love 45-70, i wouldn't hunt the thick stuff with any other weapon.

i would recommend .35 remington for younger people, a great round and i shot it when i was a kid no problem.

My vote is the 460 S&W. Flat shooting, hard hitting but the recoil would alot lower then the 45-70. And you can shoot 45 colt, 454 Casull outta of it. And it would be a far better choice than it's smaller magnum cousins

Thanks for some of the info guys. So the encore barrels are only available in .460 s&w, .500 s&w, and 45/70.... Which of those would have the least recoil? The .460 has 200 grain hornady bullets available. With a 20 or 24" encore barrel would that be less than the recoil I get with 150 grains of powder, and a 275 grain bullet?

stapher you posted while I was posting....You can shoot other ammo beside .460 ammo in the .460? Is it possible to even shoot a bullet lighter than 200 grains for even less recoil?
