Best action for a compact rifle

I'm looking for a lower price compact 243.win or 7mm08 for my daughter. I would rather buy new. Any compact that you guys recommend with a smooth action. Ruger? Savage? Remington?

I looked at a Ruger American and it sure had a smooth action. I havent shot one but for the price it didnt look bad.

Consider all the "features" you get for your money !

I like my model seven youth in 7mm08 but the model seven is hard to find where I am from and a little pricy. Try the spa 700 compact.

Look at weatherby vanguard youth.

Or the 700 adl youth combo.

How's about a Savage model 11 youth?

Rob1969 01-28-2014 04:56 AM

Youth guns are ideal but I have a couple of reasons why I want to stick with a compact. I would rather cut the stock if I have to (for her), than be stuck with a youth rifle as she grows. Also if she wants to stick with bow hunting more?..I can use it.
I'm really trending towards Ruger American.

The good then about the remington and weatherby over the ruger american is.you can get a long stock if she out grows the shorter one or you want the use it. I have a rainstorms for my model seven a youth that came with it for my nephew and a remington synthetic full lengthy that my dad uses. They are plenty of full lengthy stocks on eBay the be had at a decent price for the remington 700.

A cheaper way to go is the H&R handie rifle youth.

The Ruger Hawkeye compact is another decent choice. My wife has two and loves them.

id also second the handi rifle or one of the other single shot break open guns. They can carry the gun broken open when not in use so you know its safe, they are small and easy to handle, they teach you to make the 1st shot count. I have a handi in 308 i really like.
